Semi-Custom Stationery Guide

Customisation reference for our signature range of ready-to-order wedding and event suites.

Read on for customisation ideas for The Wedding Collection and highlights to illustrate the versatility of collection designs — even small variations can significantly change the look and feel of each piece for top-to-bottom personalisation.

The FPCo. design aesthetic focuses largely on artful typesetting and layout. Thoughtful typography is often underestimated in invitation design despite having a substantial effect on the overall look and layout of your suite as a whole, either in type-based designs or combined with our handwritten calligraphy. We’ve outlined below a small selection out of the countless variations available as part of the online collection, offering some inspiration for what may be created via the semi-custom range.

Point to Note: Before going forward with an order it’s highly recommended you familiarise yourself with the Collection Guide, provided to give you a breakdown of the process and customisation options (eg. paper types, print methods, etc.) available for your order.

Variation I: Fonts

While the Collection has been designed with specific typefaces in mind for each suite, each base design will work well with a variety of different styles. Typography and font choice has a massive impact on an invitation suite — by changing the font family alone your event can go from romantically traditional to Gatsby-esque luxe without any additional design elements involved. Each couple is different, and with access to hundreds of different typefaces font choices are suggested and showcased during the design phase based your overall preferences.

Point to Note: Calligraphy included with any Collection suite is custom handwritten to order, then digitised and edited for production. FPCo. does not use external calligraphy fonts in the semi-custom range.

Scroll through the slides to see how just three different font styles can alter the perception of an invitation —

  1. eg. Classic Serif
For a more traditional event the first choices will generally focus around classic serifs. These fonts are beautiful and subtle, and well-suited to more formal styling.

  2. eg. Sans Serif
Sans-serif fonts add to a modern vibe in general, so if you’re planning a sea-side soirée with bright colours and custom cocktails we’ll likely begin looking to these font families as a starting point.

  3. eg. Modern Combination
Often suited to more casual/cocktail style events these fonts are not quite as formal as the classics and will usually be chosen for statement purposes or to highlight specific typographic elements such as ultra-long tails (think y’s, p’s, and Q’s) and interesting ligatures.

Variation II: Layout

The arrangement of your wording on any invitation card is largely dictated by the content provided. Will you be using full names or first names only? Who is hosting your wedding day? Will you spell out your wedding date in full or abbreviate with numbers, and what about Roman numerals? All of these details play a part in the layout and design of your cards, whether you decide to follow traditional etiquette (we can help with that!), or take a more modern route — the size of your text, left, right, or mixed alignment, landscape over portrait, playful colours, and mixed print methods are all on the table. As part of the process we’ll collaborate on variations to best suit your event and personalities, creating something unique to you as a couple. Note: Layout customisation includes minimal changes to accommodate orientation, wording, alignment, and Add-Ons (eg. a venue illustration or monogram). The overall design of your Collection suite choice will remain the same.

Variation III: Colour

The Collection’s base paper colours are White and Soft White, 100% Cotton cardstock, however both cardstock and envelopes may be sourced in 100+ colours. Handmade Papers are available in a range of classic tones and neutrals, and swatches are viewable via the Collection Design Guide.

FPCo. will work with you to incorporate your inspiration boards and ideas into a complementary palette that can be carried through your suite via inks and print methods, papers, envelopes, and optional Add-Ons (such as ribbon or wax seals). Variation IV: Collection Add-Ons

The Wedding Collection includes both Add-Ons and embellishments to further enhance your invitation suite. For example, whether you have chosen a calligraphy-focussed design or not you can add-on a custom calligraphy monogram (shown left, below) which may also be used for other items throughout your paper goods or as a custom wax seal stamp. All suites also have the option to add-on an illustration of a venue (or point of interest) to any of the suite cards, envelope liners, either as line art (shown centre, below) or via a digitally printed watercolour illustration. Be sure to explore the Collection Add-Ons for finishing touches you may wish to include.
